A historia do Metallica

Metallica é uma banda estadunidense de heavy metal formada em 1981 em Los Angeles, Califórnia. Fundada quando o baterista Lars Ulrich colocou um anúncio no jornal Recycler, de Los Angeles. A formação original do Metallica consistia de Ulrich na bateria, guitarrista e vocalista James Hetfield, guitarrista Dave Mustaine e baixista Ron McGovney. Estes dois últimos foram mais tarde substituídos da banda, em favor de Kirk Hammett e Cliff Burton, respectivamente. Em setembro de 1986, o ônibus de turnê da banda perdeu o controle e capotou, o que resultou em Burton sendo esmagado sob o ônibus e morrendo. Jason Newsted o substituiu menos de dois meses depois. Newsted deixou a banda em 2001 e foi substituído por Robert Trujillo, em 2003.

Os primeiros lançamentos do Metallica incluíam andamentos rápidos, instrumentais e musicalidade agressiva que os tornou como um dos "Big Four" do subgênero thrash metal juntamente com Slayer, Megadeth a Anthrax. A banda ganhou uma crescente base de fãs na comunidade de música underground, e alguns críticos dizem que o lançamento de 1986 Master of Puppets é um dos álbuns de thrash metal mais influentes e "pesados". A banda alcançou um substancial sucesso comercial com o seu álbum auto-intitulado de 1991, que estreou em primeiro lugar na Billboard 200. Alguns críticos e fãs acreditavam que o estilo musical da banda mudou de sentido apelando para o público mainstream. Com o lançamento de Load em 1996, Metallica distanciou-se de seus lançamentos anteriores, sendo descrito como "uma abordagem quase rock alternativo", e a banda enfrentou acusações de "tornar-se comercial".

Em 2000, Metallica foi um entre os vários artistas que apresentaram uma ação judicial contra a Napster por compartilhar materiais protegidos por direitos de autor livremente sem o consentimento dos membros da banda. A resolução foi tomada, e Napster se tornou um serviço de uso pago. Apesar de atingir o primeiro lugar na Billboard 200, o lançamento de St. Anger em 2003 desapontou alguns críticos e fãs com a exclusão de solos de guitarra, bem como o "aço-auscultação" da caixa. Um filme intitulado Some Kind of Monster foi lançado em 2004, documentando o processo de gravação de St. Anger.

Metallica já lançou nove álbuns de estúdio, dois álbuns ao vivo, dois extended plays, uma coletânea, vinte e dois videoclipes, quarenta e quatro singles e finalizou o trabalho em seu nono álbum de estúdio, Death Magnetic. A banda tornou-se um dos mais influentes e bem sucedidos comercialmente grupos de heavy metal. Com 90 milhões de registros vendidos em todo o mundo, incluindo 57 milhões nos Estados Unidos, a banda já ganhou sete Grammy Awards, e teve cinco álbuns em primeiro lugar na Billboard 200^[1]. O álbum de 1991, Metallica, já vendeu mais de 15 milhões de cópias, o que o torna o 25º álbum mais vendido nos Estados Unidos^[2].
